HOW WE VET YOUR CLEANER

Only a small percentage of applicants for our cleaning jobs are actually engaged, due to our vigorous vetting procedures. We get anywhere in the region of 50-100 calls per week from cleaners who want to join us. Straight away they are interviewed over the phone and asked many questions including previous experience, ability to provide at least 2 written references, next of kin details, past employment, history, etc.

Out of every hundred job enquiry's we only end up booking between twenty and thirty to come and see us for an interview. At the interview stage, they MUST provide at least 2 written references, proof of ID, proof of address, next of kin details and their National Insurance Number. Every one sits through a personal interview where we go through their details and experience to make an assessment of their suitability.

If the applicants pass this phase of the screening process they then go on to a training session, which involves learning everything from cleaning techniques, health and safety procedures, client relations and time management.

They are also fully familiarised with SelClene's procedures and forms, such as the WERF & KSD forms that are in SelClene's very own client pack.

All SelClene's cleaners are trained to use our EXCLUSIVE comprehensive Product Kit, which includes learning how to prevent cross contamination from one room to the next.

At the end of the interview and the training everyone is given a 'competence test'. Over the next few days we then check out the references of those who have shown that they can meet our strict criteria and if these are convincing then we will offer the applicant a cleaning position with a client. When they are working we continue to monitor their performance constantly and welcome feedback from our clients.

A lot of potential cleaners who come to us think that the interview is a bit too intense, or that we insist on too much training, just for a cleaning job. We know by experience that it is very important however, even though the interview alone can last for 2 hours. The successful applicants take away with them their own copy of the SelClene Training Manual and 'Cleaner's Handbook' as their future performance will be monitored against this.

THE SELECT FEW

Out of the 75 prospective workers that call us every week, no more than 25 will probably fit our criteria. Only 25 would therefore be invited in for an interview. Out of that 25, maybe only 18 would turn up. Out of the 18 only 10-15 would make it through the interview and the training. Out of that 10-15 we would only take on between 6-12 of the best ones. It's a big drop out rate, purely because our requirements are so critical, but this is why we can offer you good cleaners with confidence.

USEFUL CLEANING TIPS

Spot Carpet Cleaning - if the spot is wet blot it, don't rub. Rubbing

spreads the stain. If the spot is dry loosen and vacuum away debris prior

to moistening it.

If you suffer from allergies remember to vacuum your mattresses.

If you have carved wooden furniture use an old toothbrush to get into

the crevices - simply dip it into the polish and brush lightly.

Soiled shirt collars? Rub hair shampoo into collars before washing.

Shampoo is designed to dissolve body oils.

To clean hair brushes and combs use a combination of baking soda and water.

Wipe a stainless steel sink with vinegar, or a touch of oil on a cloth to

make the sink sparkle.

Use paint brushes to dust intricate and delicate items such as telephones,

stereos and computers.

A well-lathered shaving brush cleans deeply etched or hobnailed glassware

and crystal.

Remove soot from fireplace tiles with a mixture of lemon juice and salt,

then wash.

Remove candle wax from materials by placing a piece of kitchen or toilet roll over it
and ironing the paper with a hot iron.

Safety tip - Don't mix cleaning products, they can become toxic.

In June 1998 we introduced a special training programme for all our cleaners which taught them to use our unique colour coded system to reduce cross-contamination from one room to another.

We supply a complete product kit that will replace many, and in some cases all, of your existing cleaning products and materials. It is designed to last up to 3 months and we have had an overwhelming response from our clients for this special product kit. Many of them have informed us that it has saved them an average of £20.00 per quarter on the amount they would have normally spent on cleaning products and materials. e.g. - Microtex cloths. These cloths contain over 1 million micro fibres, which enable them to absorb and accumulate more dust and dirt particles than any normal cloth. They can be used dry, damp or wet without the use of chemicals for a shiny smear-free result on any surface. They can cost up to £5.99 each, but as SelClene is a large user and has been established for over 18 years we are able to sell 3 microtex cloths for ONLY £4.50. BLEACH is NOT recommended as it can damage soft furnishings etc. You may use it, if it is necessary, however, you WILL NOT be covered on our insurance policy. We also recommend a small first aid kit be supplied for the worker in case of accidents. This should be kept in a conspicuous place on your premises and can be purchased from any major chemist.

DOMESTIC CLEANING

This includes all general domestic duties carried out in and around the home and requires a minimum of 2.5 hours per week or 4 hours per fortnight. Your cleaner will ensure that even the tightest of "nooks and crannies" are cobweb free.

SelClene provides a full range of cleaning services leaving you time to enjoy your leisure time. Our aim is to ensure you get the service you want and we offer almost every type of domestic cleaning service you could wish for, so that you can get on with other things.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do SelClene operate and what do I do if my cleaner does not show up?

We select a cleaner for you from our database and you then employ them directly.
Your membership fee covers the recruitment, interviewing, selection and appointment of cleaners and gives you access to a replacement cleaner upon demand.
You’ve probably employed domestic staff before and may have found that sometimes a cleaner does not turn up or that the relationship between you and the cleaner does not work out. With our agency, you simply call us and we send you another cleaner within days.

Q: What background checks are done on the cleaner?

Every cleaner comes with references from former employers, which we check. You get a copy of these. We also accumulate additional references from their existing SelClene clients once they have been with us for a while.
We check proof of identity by requiring a passport, birth certificate or some other form of ID, so we know they are who they say they are.
We also require proof of address, such as a gas bill or telephone bill, so that we know they do live at the address they give us.

Q: How soon can I have a cleaner start?

Allow a few days to book the appointment with us, after which it takes 1 - 5 days for a cleaner to be allocated to you.

Q: What happens if the cleaner does not turn up, or I go away?

If you miss any cleaning, say due to changeovers, periods when you or your cleaner are on holiday, or on account of the cleaner being ill, you can claim a No Charge Period for time missed.
We provide you with Worker Earnings Receipts to log hours worked and monies paid to your cleaner. If there are gaps, send us the receipts and we’ll adjust your account to reflect any missed time.
The SelClene Time-Line is optional but recommended. With Time-Line we can reconcile the EXACT hours your cleaner has worked. We can even tell if a cleaner is absent from your home when they should be there, enabling us to follow the cleaner up before you’re even aware that they’re late or absent!

Q: What do I do if I am not satisfied with my cleaner's work?

Just tell us and we'll allocate a replacement.
